The ongoing CORE (Satoshi BTCs) TestNet is slated to be stopped on June 30th around 2:00 UTC during the implementation of the coming upgrading as announced earlier by the Core DAO team.
The upgrading will be the last face of the TestNet release before launching the MainNet as the following update will be introduced:
- Introducing a hybrid validator and updated consensus algorithm to choose validator set using a hybrid score, which is theoretically proved to be more decentralized and secure compared with the previous design.
- Fixed some issues related to system security and performance.
- The existing data of the current TestNet will be deleted for the new TestNet to run smoothly.
- Services like RPC node, validator, Blockchain browser, and faucet will all stop.
The upgrade is estimated to take a few hours and the new TestNet will continue thereafter as well as BTCs mining.
This development came up after the Core DAO Team announced they have identified a potential improvement to the Satoshi Plus consensus algorithm to make it even more decentralized.
The optimization will see BTCs holders and Bitcoin miners not need to stake coins and hash power separately on different types of validators, they can achieve both on each hybrid validator.
Block rewards will be distributed fairly to both types of stakers.
